Italian Mountain Bike Tour
Italy has a unique environment with wide and varied terrain, so the style of mountain bike tours also varies from region to region. In recent years the Alpine mountains Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz have been popular destinations for downhill bikers. Ski lifts have even been adapted for carrying bikers up to the hilltops so they can race down again. The soil in this area is clay-based so it tends to be dusty in summer but muddy on wet days.
Trails in the Dolomite region, in contrast, do not change as much with the weather. The rock and gravel drains well, and the very steep trails here make for amazing summit views to some of the highest peaks in Europe. The Trento region is home to Lake Garda in a beautiful valley, and the terrain here offers mellow as well as steep climbs, and lovely rides past vineyards, apple groves and monasteries.
