Scott is known for the best mountain bikes with carbon-fiber frames, but with the Scale 29 Pro, they focused on the price of the mountain bike. The mountain bike reviews for the Scale 29 Pro indicate that the frame on this Scott's hardtail is very similar to its $6500 Scale 29 RC; the only difference is that this mountain bike is 100 grams heavier. The mountain bike reviews state that it is an ideal mountain bike for an aspiring racer for a fraction of a cost of Scott's top shelf mountain bike.

The Scale 29 Pro mountain reviews state that it comes with a mix of SRAM and Shimano components, Avid brakes and a RockShox fork, and Scott brand parts in the cockpit. The mountain bike weighs 23.7 pounds, costs $2500 and will be issued in April 2011.

Italy has a unique environment with wide and varied terrain, so the style of mountain bike tours also varies from region to region. In recent years the Alpine mountains Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz have been popular destinations for downhill bikers. Ski lifts have even been adapted for carrying bikers up to the hilltops so they can race down again. The soil in this area is clay-based so it tends to be dusty in summer but muddy on wet days.

Trails in the Dolomite region, in contrast, do not change as much with the weather. The rock and gravel drains well, and the very steep trails here make for amazing summit views to some of the highest peaks in Europe. The Trento region is home to Lake Garda in a beautiful valley, and the terrain here offers mellow as well as steep climbs, and lovely rides past vineyards, apple groves and monasteries.
